SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –Native Nations signed on to sponsor the Film Festival at SiouxperCon, September 27 to 29 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.
“The SiouxperCon Film Festival is unique in that the films selected for the festival will screen alongside repertory screenings of classic genre films in the horror, anime, action and sci-fi categories,” Shane Gerlach, director and founder of SiouxperCon, said. “Native Nations has always been a great partner with SiouxperCon and their sponsorship will allow us to show selected films, both short and feature-length.”
Native Nations representative, Nick Flute, said, “”Native Nations Cannabis is delighted to announce our support for SiouxperCon as it enters its 9th year in the Sioux Falls community. We’re thrilled to stand alongside this beloved event, celebrating creativity, diversity, and the spirit of togetherness. As advocates for community engagement and cultural celebration, we’re eager to join forces with SiouxperCon and contribute to its continued success in enriching the lives of those in our community.”
Casey Kelderman, Film Festival Coordinator for SiouxperCon said, “it’s amazing to see SiouxperCon grow each year, and that includes the Film Festival. Each year we showcase dozens of films from all over the world, with an emphasis on those made right in our backyard. The filmmakers who have a film selected for the festival receive a weekend pass to all the SiouxperCon activities, and are also invited to take part in a panel and workshop with their fellow filmmakers. Their films even get to play alongside repertory screenings of classic genre films that may have inspired them to make their own movie. This would not be possible without the tremendous support from our community, including Native Nations.”
SiouxperCon, celebrating its ninth convention in 2024, is a three-day extravaganza that celebrates pop culture, art, film, comic books, cosplay, anime, board games, video games, science fiction and fantasy. “We take special pride in our focus on education and promotion of STEAM and arts education,” Gerlach said, “No matter what forms of popular culture you enjoy, you’re sure to find something to remember for years to come.”
SiouxperCon is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is run entirely by a volunteer staff and board. Local charities, including REACH Literacy, the JY6 Foundation and this year Make-A-Wish of South Dakota & Montana, receive profits from the convention, totaling over $30,000 in recent years. In 2023, 10,515 people attended the event at the Arena and Convention Center.Featured guests this year include actor Walter Koenig, Chekov from the original Star Trek series.
