Official Beer of SiouxperCon from Look’s Beer Company

Sioux Falls, S.D. —SiouxperCon 23 will have its own special brew, the Siouxper Diouxper Oompah Band Beer at the Sioux Falls Convention Center and Sheraton Hotel starting September 28. The Märzen Flager, a pale lager, is made by the official brewmasters of SiouxperCon 23, Look’s Beer Co.

“Labeled with our own quartet of oompah band superheroes, this beer promises to be beyond comparison,” Shane Gerlach, SiouxperCon director, said,  “, especially with the spectacular, collectible comic label.”

“This is a can for the collection,” Gerlach said. “Les Cotton, creative director at Look’s, really outdid himself on the can design that features an accordion playing Mandalorian, a beer-bellied spider superhero playing the trumpet, a caped crusader on the tuba, and a musical Lightyear as the trombone virtuoso. Plus, the beer is made just for us,” he said.

“Märzen flaggers are slightly caramelly, a little bready, and easy drinking with a slight hop presence,” Chad McKinney, head brewer at Look’s Beer Co. said. The special brew will have a typical Oktoberfest beer presence, he said.

SiouxperCon 23 runs September 28 to October 1 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center and Arena, and the beer will be available at venue bars and at the Sheraton Hotel bar for those over 21, he said.

SiouxperCon is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is run entirely by a volunteer staff and board. Local charities, including REACH Literacy, the JY6 Foundation, and this year Make-A-Wish of South Dakota and Montana, receive profits from the convention, totaling over $25,000 in recent years, Gerlach said. In 2022, some 7,000 people attended the event.

Featured guests this year include actors Sean Gunn from The Gilmore Girls and the Marvel Universe, and Adrian Paul, Duncan McCloud from Highlander. Also attending, the voice of Winnie the Pooh,  Jim Cummings; the puppeteer for the Yoda in “The Empire Strikes Back,” David Barclay, along with the actual Yoda puppet for photo opportunities and many more.
