FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

SiouxperCon 2021: Heroes Homecoming seeks to highlight local “everyday” heroes as part of their annual fan convention.

Now in its fifth year, SiouxperCon is known for being “the” annual event for lovers of all things in the “nerd” community.  This year SiouxperCon is looking to highlight “real life” heroes in our community through nominations by friends, family, coworkers and others.

It hit everyone at SiouxperCon hard when we made the difficult decision to cancel the event in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Like all of our friends and neighbors in the Sioux Falls and wider community, we were heartened by the efforts of “real life” heroes who made life better in a difficult time. This inspired us to honor these “heroes without capes” at our next in-person event.

As a result, this year SiouxperCon 2021: Homecoming Heroes aims to celebrate those true heroes in our life, from first responders and medical professionals to essential workers who showed up every day to do their job despite the pandemic. We also want to celebrate all of the dedicated non-profits in our community who tirelessly work and volunteer to serve populations in need to create a brighter future for us all.

We are looking for nominations from the community from your heroes from the past year. We will use the nominations to create a video running on all of our social media, this website and at the event in October featuring these local heroes. Nominations can be made on the website at https://siouxpercon.com/nominate-a-hero/ and the deadline to submit is Wednesday, September 15th at 5:00 pm CST.

SiouxperCon is more than just a celebration of comic books, cosplay, anime, board games, video games, science fiction and fantasy. SiouxperCon is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. To date the convention has donated over $25,000.00 to local charities. Our mission is to not only provide an inclusive event for members of the nerd community, both young and old, but to support local charities that help others in Sioux Falls. Local Sponsors include: Black Hills Federal Credit Union, Schulte Subaru, MidCo, Common Sense, Severance Brewing, Allegra Printing, Firelink Digital Marketing, Game Chest, Last Stop CD Shop, Sioux Empire Travel, TNTax Business Services, Voices Against Cancer, VeauxDevil Cabaret, Brookings Books and Comics, JJ’s Comics and Art, JuLiana’s Boutique, Vishnu Bunny Tattoo, Cresten Properties, Wednesday Comics Podcast, Woods, Fuller, Schultz & Smith P.C. and US Bank. >
