Thanks to Sponsorship from Sioux Falls PRIDE, the amazing Magdalene Visaggio will be making her South Dakota Debut at SiouxperCon Retromania September 29-October 2 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.
Magdalene is the Eisner and GLAAD Media Award-nominated writer of Eternity Girl, Morning in America, and Kim & Kim, and a pretty solid rhythm guitarist.
Growing up in Richmond, Virginia, she moved to NYC after college and abandoned plans to join the clergy to write comic books where people hit each other with guitars and whatnot. She still waxes philosophical sometimes.
Visaggio came to wider prominence in the comic book industry with the limited series Kim & Kim from Black Mask Studios. The series was nominated for the 2017 Eisner Award for Best Limited Series and GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comic Book. In 2017, she was chosen to take part in DC Comics’ Writer Workshop program following her Eisner nomination for Kim & Kim. Her first book with DC, Eternity Girl, was released in 2018 to critical acclaim/confusion. It’s a weird book. 2018 also saw the debut of Vagrant Queen from publisher Vault Comics. In 2020, a television series adaptation of Vagrant Queen aired on SyFy.
In 2018 her graphic novel The Ojja-Wojja: A Teenage Nightmare was bought by HarperCollins imprint Balzer + Bray. Per Magdalene, “The pandemic really fucked shit up, and at this point it’ll be out in 2023, which is ridiculous.”
Mags will be on the Vendor Floor where you can challenge her to any Star Trek Trivia, a guitar Jam off or get some of her amazing books. She will also be presenting a panel or two during the weekend.
